ABOUT
"Womensemble" is a composite word of "women" and "ensemble," which means that this exhibition showcases the problems that all women may face, and it also contains the meaning of gathering women to challenge the status quo.
The exhibition is divided into three units. The first part, "The Buried ONE," mainly reflects the suffering faced by women under the traditional Chinese moral constraints and the inferiority of men and women; The second part, "The Objectified ONE," shows that women face the problems of being stared at and consumed in life in the context of contemporary China. The third part, "The Independent ONE," expresses women's desire to release emotions and change the old social order.
In terms of the selection of exhibits, nine feminist works with different themes were selected. They represent different degrees of harm suffered by women from stereotypes, cultural dross, humiliating vocabulary, male gaze, domestic violence, and other phenomena. In the last part, the artworks of women changing the status quo are displayed. The types of exhibits include video, sculpture, large-scale installations, and a form of live performance, bringing fresh multi-sensory experiences to the audience. Most of the works are created by Chinese feminist artists, making the exhibits present a subtle and introspective oriental feminist art style, reflecting the artist's personal experience and stories and leaving the audience with space for exploration and discovery.
